Tanaka is a minor character in BNA: Brand New Animal, appearing in episodes one and two. He is a lion Beastman.

Appearance[]

In his beastman form, Tanaka appears as a muscular lion with a large mane with a slightly darker color than his fur. His tail is very thin with a black, rounded segment at the end. He wears a sleeveless shirt, baggy pants, combat boots, and a watch on his left wrist. He also wears a bandolier that rests on his right shoulder and a utility belt with four pouches. Tanaka’s human form is never shown.

Personality[]

Like his two coconspirators, there is little information given on Tanaka, but he describes to Shirou Ogami his lack of shame for following his orders to participating in the bombing, explaining that he and his cohorts “do [their] job, and [they] do it right.” He also states that he does not discriminate between job assignments given by beastmen or humans.[1]

Plot[]

Background[]

He, alongside Sato and Yamada, were hired to bomb the festival at Anima City, presumably by Sylvasta Pharmaceuticals as part of the company's head's plan to mar the human-beastman relations.[2]

BNA: Brand New Animal[]

Tanaka emerges with Yamada after Sato pounds twice on a van’s back door while being pursued by Shirou. The three fire at Shirou (with Tanaka using his shotgun) but they’re unable to even hit Shirou. During the battle, Shirou chides the three mercenaries for siding with humans, which Tanaka shrugs off as an unimportant detail, since he and his two allies will side with anyone if they pay enough.

In the opening of Rabbit Town, we see that Shirou had tied Tanaka, Sato, and Yamada up, with a note taped to them identifying them as the bombers who ruined the festival. Their unconscious bodies are discovered by Yuji Tachiki.
