Masaru Kusakabe (日下部勝, Kusakabe Masaru) was a supporting character in BNA: Brand New Animal. He was a member of The Family and reported directly to Giuliano Flip. He was a spotted hyena Beastman.[2]
Appearance[]
In his human form, Kusakabe sports a brown, comb-over hairstyle and wears a turquoise suit with a dolphin pin on his lapel.
In his spotted hyena form, he has tan fur and dark brown, round, pointy ears, snout, and tail tip. He still wears his suit.
Personality[]
Kusakabe is best described as bratty, cocky, and short-tempered. He is a sexist who isn't afraid to waive his superiority over Gram Grandma and freely insults the women in the room. He is also highly confrontational and willing to settle disputes through a fight. However, it is his bloated pride and overconfidence that result in his own downfall.
History[]
He visits Gram Grandma with Giuliano Flip and another member of The Family to demand money from her. During the bombing incident, he helps load a truck in the Medical Center's parking garage and is caught by Michiru in the process. He and his gang go after Michiru. After cornering her, he says he is going to teach her a lesson, and he and his gang attempt to harm Michiru, but they are stopped by Shirou. The next day, he is captured by Giuliano Flip who proceeds to torture and execute him for his connections to Sylvasta Pharmaceuticals.

Trivia[]
- His first name 勝 (masaru) means to win or be superior to in kanji.
- His sexist streak is ironic, as in real life, spotted hyenas are actually matriarchal, with the females being naturally bigger, stronger and more aggressive than their subservient male counterparts.
- It is likely that his sexism is merely a bluff to boost his ego.
