The Bears is a co-ed baseball team in the BNA: Brand New Animal anime. They compete in the Anima City Baseball League and consist of a group of Bear Beastmen from the Slums in Anima City.
Description[]
The Bears are a team of inexperienced Bear Beastmen that live in the Slums. They all share a small room as their home and live in dire poverty. Dante is the head coach of the team and fixes match behind the scenes with The Family. The team consists of 11 members including the coach and Michiru.
The members are often made fun of for being dumb and gullible, which is shown when they follow their coach's forced signs to bunt in Game 2 and when they purchase gimmicks with the prize money they won instead of a more worthwhile investment. Arai and Jackie are both female while the rest of the members are male.
Uniform[]
Their uniform consists of a white short-sleeved baseball jersey with black buttons, two yellow stripes running beside the buttons, and a yellow bear symbol over the left breast. The back of the jersey has their player number in large yellow print. They also wear a black shirt underneath the jersey, a yellow cap with small bear ears, a black belt, white pants, gray socks, and black shoes.
There is some variation in how they wear their uniforms. Some unbutton their jersey, others wear their cap backward or choose to forgo wearing it. Michiru wears the jersey unbuttoned, a short-sleeved inner shirt, and white short shorts instead of the standard uniform.
A lot of the gear they own is worn out or unsuitable for baseball. For instance, Arai Rascal uses an oven mitt as a glove when subbed in as a pitcher in the game against the tigers. Other clothing and gear they own contain a lot of patches.
History[]
In Episode 5, the team's pitcher is incapacitated during a game with the flamingos. Because the team lacks a relief pitcher and only had 8 active members, they would be forced to forfeit the match. Getting no response from their sleeping coach, Jackie calls in a pitcher switch in with Michiru. Michiru easily guides to team to victory with the help of her Gorilla Arm powers.
The team swept the series with their ace Michiru. They make it to the finals against the Killer Animals. The team loses six straight innings before gaining momentum and scoring 20 points in the last 3 innings. However, they lose by one point and place second overall in the season. The team is still able to win prize money, which they spend on a costly gimmick.
